Look ma! No insoles!

You are about to read a completely boring entry but at least it'll be short.

Today I wore my KangaROOS Rane shoes WITHOUT my insoles in them. Wheee! I had to walk to dinner in the West Village which according to Google maps is 1.3 miles away from my office and my feet don't hurt one bit.

By the way did you know there is a Grom in the West Village? Gelato....I want gelato...

Stitches Out

I'm sure based on the title you can surmise what I did today. I got my stitches taken out! It was not fun but it wasn't THAT bad either. It felt more like a hard pinch every time the doctor went in to remove each one. I didn't dare look at Clubby while he was doing this. I'm not even sure how many stitches they put in me. Basically today's verdict is that Clubby is doing fine and in 2 weeks we're gonna try and get me walking in normal shoes. Until then it's crutches for me.

It's weird to see my foot mainly because it's been bandaged up and when it gets undone at the doctor's office it's like foreign land when I see it. I should also add Clubby is still a little swollen. That's apparently normal so I don't worry much in regards to that.

Tonight will also be the first night I get to take a real shower. Yes, I know what you're thinking. Man, you must smell! I probably do but I have been bathing in other forms to keep me fresh and girly. That was probably more info than any of you ever wanted to know but let's look at it in another light. It's rather funny I haven't taken a real shower in a while. I'm like a living science experiment. I got the equivalent of a shower cap for my foot while at the doctor's office today. Hooray!

I took some photos of Clubby with the stitches still in if you want to see what she looks like. I've made pixelated thumbnails for the squeamish. Click on the photos for the larger versions.

Lynn - I know you'll click on the photos. I'd bet money on it. Maybe you can tell me how many stitches they stuck in me.

K - I don't know if you'd click to see them or not but certainly don't show your coworker. This would only further convince her not to get the surgery done.

Lizzie - I'm not sure if you'd click either but for the purposes of education you just might.

Meet Clubby!

It's officially been a week now since surgery and I have new nickname for my left foot. We now lovingly refer to it as "Clubby". Everyday it gets better but it's difficult to get work done. Having a laptop on your lap for hours on end is not fun.

In a week I'll finally get my stitches out and a brand new walking cast. Then it's 6 more weeks until my bone officially heals. Lovely. I wish I had better photos to post up for you. Maybe I'll take some this weekend. I hope everyone is doing well especially my darling Lizzie in San Diego. I hope those fires end soon.

I'm finally home from my surgery at St. Luke's hospital. Pretty bandage eh? So far I'm not feeling any pain. I haven't taken any of my pain killers but we'll see how long that last. I've been on and off ice because apparently I'm not suppose to keep my foot on ice all the time. I got a snazzy cane to help me walk and a foot brace (photo to come another day). I am all kinds of sexy right now. Words can't describe.

I have to admit my first experience having surgery (elective at that) went extremely well. I had to be there at 6am thus my stay at Diaka's so I could get there on time. The nurses took me through the paperwork and getting me prepped/dressed. Apparently you have to take off everything and put on all hospital clothes including underwear if it's that time of the month (I overhead the woman next to me). I went into room #1 and sat in the comfy chairs waiting to be called into room #2. Room #2 is where you get your snazzy rolly bed and the candy doctor (the anesthesiologist) tends to you. I think my anesthesiologist's name was Dr. Jonathan and he was quite cute. Very friendly bedside manner. Isn't there some hospital form I can fill out to say he's awesome? I had a couple of nurses attend to me and they too were wonderful! One of the nurses also had her bunion removed and hers was apparently more severe than mine. We bonded over not being able to wear pretty shoes. My doctors finally came to see me and we chatted over what was going to happen. Basically they would shave down my bunion and realign my toe securing it with either 2 pins or 2 screws. I can't remember which I got. I signed off to have surgery and Dr. Jonathan started my IV. Wheee! Liquid drugs! After I got my IV in he wheeled me into the surgery room. I kid you not but I felt like I was in an episode of Grey's Anatomy. We had light conversation in which he told me the surgery room is going to be cold. I asked him why and he said "Well, you don't want sweaty doctors operating on you do you?". Good point. I took off my hospital coat and pants (I still had my gown on) and got on the table. I was poke and prodded and had those heart monitor things placed everywhere on my chest it seemed. Needless to say I flashed more than one person. Dr. Jonathan administered the rest of my IV which included getting me groggy. I don't know when I went out but I did and the next time I woke up I think my bandages were being put on. I was told I didn't move during surgery at all. I moved myself off the table via my booty and onto my rolly bed where I got wheeled into recovery room #1.

Recovery room #1 was nice and spread out. The nurses here were attentive and friendly. I laid there watching the time going in and out of sleep. My doctors finally released me and I moved into recovery room #2 which was more crowded because this was were they would release you. Again the nurses were great. I finally got picked up and my things were brought to me including my new cane. I changed very slowly, signed out and was taken downstairs to the car via wheelchair.

Now here I am recovering from home.

This is what I'll look like the next couple of weeks. Me in front of a computer. Oh wait...that's not really very new is it? Ha ha ha!
