Happy Halloween 2007

Happy Halloween! This year I took a stab at trying to carve a pumpkin and went into a pumpkin competition with my friend. If it's not painfully obvious from the photos but he won. I would have won but the cross bones were too hard to cut. Ah well there's always next year.

I'm still carving while the winning pumpkin sits there ghoulishly smiling.

Boo!

I was trying to carve the Johnny Cupcakes logo into the pumpkin. Dude, it's hard!

All lit up and pretty!

I really like this girl. She is 21 year old Natalie from the land down under - Sydney, Australia. She video blogs about various topics and I just find her amusing. Her accent isn't too thick which helps because it's hard to understand anyone with a thick accent (Americans included). Anyhow I particularly like this entry because it's exactly how I feel about my parents. Hope you find her as fun to watch as I do!

Meet Clubby!

It's officially been a week now since surgery and I have new nickname for my left foot. We now lovingly refer to it as "Clubby". Everyday it gets better but it's difficult to get work done. Having a laptop on your lap for hours on end is not fun.

In a week I'll finally get my stitches out and a brand new walking cast. Then it's 6 more weeks until my bone officially heals. Lovely. I wish I had better photos to post up for you. Maybe I'll take some this weekend. I hope everyone is doing well especially my darling Lizzie in San Diego. I hope those fires end soon.

Bunionless

I'm finally home from my surgery at St. Luke's hospital. Pretty bandage eh? So far I'm not feeling any pain. I haven't taken any of my pain killers but we'll see how long that last. I've been on and off ice because apparently I'm not suppose to keep my foot on ice all the time. I got a snazzy cane to help me walk and a foot brace (photo to come another day). I am all kinds of sexy right now. Words can't describe.

I have to admit my first experience having surgery (elective at that) went extremely well. I had to be there at 6am thus my stay at Diaka's so I could get there on time. The nurses took me through the paperwork and getting me prepped/dressed. Apparently you have to take off everything and put on all hospital clothes including underwear if it's that time of the month (I overhead the woman next to me). I went into room #1 and sat in the comfy chairs waiting to be called into room #2. Room #2 is where you get your snazzy rolly bed and the candy doctor (the anesthesiologist) tends to you. I think my anesthesiologist's name was Dr. Jonathan and he was quite cute. Very friendly bedside manner. Isn't there some hospital form I can fill out to say he's awesome? I had a couple of nurses attend to me and they too were wonderful! One of the nurses also had her bunion removed and hers was apparently more severe than mine. We bonded over not being able to wear pretty shoes. My doctors finally came to see me and we chatted over what was going to happen. Basically they would shave down my bunion and realign my toe securing it with either 2 pins or 2 screws. I can't remember which I got. I signed off to have surgery and Dr. Jonathan started my IV. Wheee! Liquid drugs! After I got my IV in he wheeled me into the surgery room. I kid you not but I felt like I was in an episode of Grey's Anatomy. We had light conversation in which he told me the surgery room is going to be cold. I asked him why and he said "Well, you don't want sweaty doctors operating on you do you?". Good point. I took off my hospital coat and pants (I still had my gown on) and got on the table. I was poke and prodded and had those heart monitor things placed everywhere on my chest it seemed. Needless to say I flashed more than one person. Dr. Jonathan administered the rest of my IV which included getting me groggy. I don't know when I went out but I did and the next time I woke up I think my bandages were being put on. I was told I didn't move during surgery at all. I moved myself off the table via my booty and onto my rolly bed where I got wheeled into recovery room #1.

Recovery room #1 was nice and spread out. The nurses here were attentive and friendly. I laid there watching the time going in and out of sleep. My doctors finally released me and I moved into recovery room #2 which was more crowded because this was were they would release you. Again the nurses were great. I finally got picked up and my things were brought to me including my new cane. I changed very slowly, signed out and was taken downstairs to the car via wheelchair.

Now here I am recovering from home.

This is what I'll look like the next couple of weeks. Me in front of a computer. Oh wait...that's not really very new is it? Ha ha ha!

Hacked on myspace!!!

I'm not sure why I signed onto myspace this morning but I did only to find someone had gotten into my account and was sending messages to people on my behalf (sorry about that Lynn). Great security folks! Anyhow I've been trying to go through all 150 friends of mine and delete my message. I know that sounds nuts to go through all my friends accounts and do that but I feel bad. I've since changed my password and probably will have to remember to change it weekly at this point. Boo to myspace!!!

Outbid

eBay Outbid

With 39 seconds left to bid I somehow managed to come up with the magic number ($10.01) that would allow me to outbid bidder #3 instantly. Whose better than me? Now let's hope the items I won come in perfect condition because they're actually gifts for my friend who I have a very hard time shopping for. This girl has everything and every year I have to get creative!

Comments are back!

I'm not sure when I took them away but I spent the afternoon making sure they're back! So my comment friendly folks please feel free to comment away. I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

Would you let me babysit your kid?

Dylan, Penny & Michael play together.

Janet and Merv don't seem to mind my babysitting techniques which is why I am Dylan's #1 babysitter. Okay so maybe I'm really not but don't you dare ever tell me that! Enjoy some fun photos from the last time I got to babysit Dylan. And yes, I always bring a friend with me so that I can concentrate on Dylan and the other person can get lunch! Wait 'til Vicky and Monica let me babysit! Oh what photos will ensue!

Thin Is In

If you already haven't figured out I'm using my blog to document the things and looks I want to incorporate into my house when we renovate. With that said let's move on to today's wonderful "I want item", this Fagor 24" no frost refrigerator. Price tagged at $1699 it's apparently reasonably priced. I don't know about you but I never thought I would buy a $1699 refrigerator but then again I also wasn't as big of a snob when it comes to my home furnishings as I am now. That means I'll have to pay for the damn thing if I want it in the kitchen.

This 24" no frost refrigerator measures 24 x 24 x 78 3/4 which is true cabinet depth and is the healthiest refrigerator on the market according to Fagor. Depending on how we lay out the stove and sink we may not have much room for a wide refrigerator so this could be perfect for us!

We're upgrading!

Come Spring my family and I will be upgrading our house and redoing the downstairs bathroom, kitchen and attic. I'm hoping this will be less painful than when we redid my bathroom but I'm sure they'll drive me insane nonetheless. At least this time I won't be kicked out of my room. I expect we'll have someone draw up plans and what not, get them approved (I live in one of those historic landmark houses) and then start the rebuilding. In the mean time I saw these awesome cubes called Cubits from DWR (Design Within Reach) that are way expensive but I feel worth the investment. To begin they are eco friendly thus the $200 price tag per set of 4 cubes. I'll probably need at least 2 sets for the space I'm looking to fill, maybe even 3 (I have some measuring to do tonight). The bigger question is how easy are they to take down and move with you?

Swirly Corner Design

I love the swirly design above the books in the corner. I'd like to replicate something like that in my room once I declutter it. Stay tuned as I plan on redecorating in 2008.
